Duties

 

Job Tasks

  • Analyze market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
  • Control procurement department budgets.
  • Develop and implement procurement and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures.
  • Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in buying and storing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies.
  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
  • Prepare reports regarding market conditions and merchandise costs.
  • Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers.
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
  • Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids.
  • Administer on-line purchasing systems.
  • Arrange for disposal of surplus materials.
  • Locate vendors of materials, equipment or supplies, and interview them in order to determine product availability and terms of sales.
  • Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment.
  • Prepare bid awards requiring board approval.
  • Represent companies in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers.

Required Knowledge

  • Administration and Management - Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Economics and Accounting - Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of mining sector procurement systems is a strong added advantage

  • Bachelors Degree in mining
  • Minimum of foundation Diploma of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS)
  • Affiliated to the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
