About this job

Our client, Millennium Challenge Account - Zambia (MCA-Z) has been established under the laws of Zambia as a company limited by guarantee, designated by the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) as the Accountable Entity to implement the Lusaka Water Supply, Sanitation and Drainage Project. This has been funded by the United States of America, acting through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The Compact agreement between MCC and GRZ was signed on May 10, 2012.

 

Our client seeks to recruit suitable candidates for the below indicated position:

 

TITLE: Internal Auditor

 

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer



Duties

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide input required by the Internal Audit Consultant (IAC) in preparing strategic and annual internal audit plans based on assessment of key risk areas for MCA-Zambia.
  • Provide input in internal audit reports by IAC directed to the Audit Committee of MCA-Zambia Board.
  • Ensure internal controls and procedures duly approved by MCA-Zambia Board are implemented as recommended by the IAC, and provide feedback to MCA-Zambia Finance and Audit Committee on the effectiveness of the implemented internal controls and procedures.
  • Independently, but within the approved audit plans, identify serious defects in the internal controls and procedures, and immediately report them to the CEO without disclosure to any other member of staff. This also applies to instances where serious fraud and irregularity is uncovered. This information can also be shared with the IAC as approved by MCA-Zambia CEO.
  • Suggest to Senior Management through the CEO on how MCA-Zambia and IAC can enhance interactions based on the Assistant Internal Auditor’s experience working with the IAC. 
  • Coordinate MCA-Zambia External Auditor’s requests for information and documentation from the Internal Audit Consultant.
  • Conduct special assignments and investigations as directed by MCA-Zambia Finance and Audit Committee. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • An undergraduate degree in accounting or auditing. Preferably ACCA or equivalent
  • At least five (5) years of experience working as a public accountant, and management accountant, an auditor, or internal auditor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying the principles, techniques, practices and procedures of an internal audit function; developing sound internal controls for financial and operational programs; developing remediation programs where controls have been found deficient; developing risk assessment instruments and communicating to program managers how to assess risk in their respective areas. 
  • Ability to achieve results while working under pressure.
  • Ability to evaluate automated financial accounting system and to develop methods for testing system controls.
  • Ability to use office software such as Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and
  • Professional membership with ZICA
