Our Client John Snow, Inc. (JSI) seeks highly qualified and accomplished public health leaders and providers for the recently awarded United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/PEPFAR-funded Supporting an AIDS-Free Era (SAFE) Project in Zambia. The five year project which will be led by JSI in partnership with Abt Associates, mothers2mothers, and the Catholic Medical Mission Board, will work to reduce HIV mortality, morbidity and transmission, while improving nutrition outcomes and family planning integration in three provinces: Central, Copperbelt, and North-Western.




USAID/PEPFAR SAFE will work with the GRZ, private sector and civil society institutions at the national, provincial, and district level to increase access to ART for HIV positive adults and children, reduce the incidence of new infections, improve Nutritional Assessment, Counseling and Services (NACS) and family planning services, and increase the capacity of local health institutions to better serve affected populations.

JOB SUMMARY



The purpose of this job is to support the integration of family planning services into all HIV/AIDS service programs in central, Copperbelt and North-western provinces. Through this job reproductive health, maternal new-born and child health care and family planning services will be well integrated into HIV/AIDS services. The incumbent will report to the Director of Clinical services at the province and a dotted line to the Senior Family Planning Advisor in Lusaka.



Primary Responsibilities and Duties:



  • Provide province wide leadership in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating FP integration activities
  • Provide guidance and technical support to SAFE supported facilities to ensure that all family planning activities are consistent with accepted best practices and are aligned to World Health Organization (WHO), USAID SAFE Objective 6, the Zambia Family Planning guidelines and the 8 year family planning scale up plan priorities and strategies
  • Lead implementation of agreed upon provincial work plans on family planning activities ensuring quality monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting as required
  • Develop and implement strategies for building men and Girls and Young Women peer support systems for involvement in family planning integrated services
  • Provide technical and material assistance to GRZ to improve FP integration and service uptake by motivating women living with HIV to make informed decisions about their reproductive health;
  • Provide first line technical and material support to facilities so that family planning is well integrated into HTS and ART services at all service points and also working along with colleagues in NACs, VMMC and PS components of the program.
  • Develop a training plan for CBDs and Health care providers for the province in collaboration with the Senior Family Planning Advisor
  • Act as a resource for planning and executing family planning LARC and CBD trainings
  • Work with partners mothers to mothers to ensure SAFE works within the provisions of the national reproductive health strategy;
  • Coordinate with PHO and DHOs to host sexual reproductive health and family planning stakeholders’ forum meetings to share lessons and experience;
  • Represent the project at provincial quarterly review meetings including regional FP TWG meetings;
  • Able to provide sexual reproductive health education and differentiated packages of family planning methods to adolescent girls and young women.
  • Serve on provincial stakeholder groups that address and advocate for maternal, new born, family planning and child health services
  • Make links with the private sector to establish and strengthen public-private partnerships in the provision of family planning
  • Promote activities that will help establish effective bi-directional referral linkages between family planning and HIV services to improve client outcomes including adherence and retention;
  • Preparation of provincial reports on FP integration
  • Completes other duties as needed and specified by the team/supervisor



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with the Zambian FP Guidelines and the 8 year integrated family scale up plan
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and teaching FP in diverse environments;
  • Ability to facilitate learning among providers of community based SRH and FP services;
  • Experience with USAID-funded /or other donor projects and programs
  • Being able to work effectively with GRZ through PHOs and DHOs, CBOs and health facilities;
  • Ability to translate technical information into practical guidance and tools for service providers
  • Ability to work with the private sector;
  • Good oral and documentation communication skills;
  • Computer literate especially in word, excel, power point and internet and
  • People centred change agent and a unifying player in multisectoral teams;
  • Must be registered with GNC.
  • BSc nursing or equivalent with more than 5 years’ experience;
  • Must be a state registered midwife with a diploma from a GRZ school of nursing;
  • Training as LARC and CBD trainer are a must.
  • MPH or equivalent will be an added advantage;
